Here at Environment Maine we’ve always said that you don’t need pay high-powered lobbyists to get your voice heard in the Statehouse. All you need is a clipboard.

This summer, young people will grab a clipboard, learn about our campaign to protect Moosehead Lake and head out in teams across the state to canvass for Environment Maine. You’ll probably meet one this summer. While it might seem like a small thing for you to renew your Environment Maine membership this summer, it truly adds up.
This summer, we’ll have conversations with close to 30,000 Mainers between Kittery Point, Bridgton, Orono and Ellsworth.

Those conversations will help to spread the word about Environment Maine and expand our membership. Having members not only funds our day-to-day operations and campaigns, but it also gives us the political power to come through with concrete results.

Your support in past years helped us win the bill to increase our state’s new, clean energy 10 percent by 2017 and stop aerial pesticide spraying of the largest agribusinesses in Maine.

This year—we hope—your contribution could make it possible for us to save the Downeaster train (see article, page 2), to garner funding for clean water infrastructure and pass the regional cap on global warming pollution from power plants (see article, page 3).

So when we knock on your door this summer, remember we’re on your doorstep to build support for where we’re needed in the coming year—in the Statehouse, in the halls of Congress and in the community. We’re fundraising so we can keep providing result-oriented grassroots advocacy for Maine.

We couldn’t do it without you. Thanks for your support and enjoy your summer.
